Nanjing, China

      Nanjing, one of the four great ancient capital cities in China, is a famous city for its rich culture and long history and beautiful landscape. In 472 B.C., Goujian, the king of Yue State, started to build the city at the Yuhuatai, thus it was called "Yue city" in the history book, which was the earliest record of Nanjing as a city; and it has been 2470 years ever since. In 229 A.D., the Eastern Wu of the Three Kingdoms moved its capital to Nanjing, and started to develop the city and renamed it as "Jianye city"; after that, Eastern Jin, the Song, Qi, Liang and Chen, Southern Tang, the Ming, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Republic of China all made Nanjing the capital; thus Nanjing is also praised as "a capital city of ten dynasties". All of them have left behind rich Chinese national and cultural heritages and relics in Nanjing, such as: the palace of the founder emperor of Ming dynasty; the ancient city wall (preserved the best in the world); Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum -proclaiming to the world the spirit of Freedom, Equality and Fraternity; the Yuhuatai-a holy place once soaked in the blood of the revolutionary martyrs; and the Confucius Temple, the Jinghai Temple, the Ming Tomb, the President's Palace, and many, many other places of historical interests. 

　　There are many protected cultural relics and sites, of which one has been inscribed on the World's Heritage List, 11 are of the state level, and 77 provincial. As a result, four cultures of distinctive characteristics are formed in Nanjing: the cultures of the Six dynasties, the culture of the Ming Dynasty, the culture of the Republic of China, and the revolutionary culture.

       Nanjing, with very favorable geographical location and picturesque landscape, is also a famous tourist city. It is situated amid a hilly area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, To its east is the fertile Yangtze River delta region, and to its west the hilly areas of the south of Anhui Province; the valley of the Tai Lake is to its south and the Jianghuai plain to its north. It belongs to the northern subtropical monsoon climate zone where the four seasons are clearly demarcated, with plenty rainfall and abundant produce. The mountains, the lakes and rivers, the forests and the city proper have incorporated into an integral whole. There are beautiful sceneries all the year round: in spring, going into the "Niushou Mountain scenic area misty greenness"; in summer, seeing the "sunlight and clouds in the eastern suburb"; in autumn, climbing the splendid Qixia Mountain; and in winter, appreciating the stone city in the white snow. 

        Nanjing is also a modern city of dynamics and openness.

        Nanjing, with its solid overall strengths, is one of China's important economic centers, and one of the four science and educational centers. 

        Nanjing, with complete infrastructure, is one of the important transportation and communication hubs in East China.

        Nanjing, well developed in its trade and commerce, is one of the central commercial cities in the Yangtze River delta region, only second to Shanghai. 
Nanjing, the ancient capital city, the green city and the cultural city, is becoming one of China's most dynamic, most attractive to investment, and most suitable places for people to live.

        Nanjing has been awarded with several honorable titles for its outstanding achievements in the past few years, such as: "the advanced city in science and technology advancement of China", "one of the first assessed excellent tourist cities in China", "a state-level garden city", "a state-level health city", and " a model city of environmental protection in China". 

         Nanjing, as one of the "forty Chinese cities with best environment for investment", is also regarded in the world as one of the Asian cities on the Pacific rim that will have the best prospect of development in the 21st century.
