Last night, at Xuanwu Lake's Lianhua Square's open air dance stage, the 2004 Nanjing China World Famous Historical and Cultural Cities Expo came to a close.
　　
　　Jiang Hongkun gave the closing ceremony remarks. He said that this Expo was a magnificent cultural meeting of unprecedented scale and innovation. 58 fresh and innovative activities with rich contents were gathered together to embody the ideal of the expo of "collecting together the exquisiteness of ancient cities, and bring together the magnificence of the world," and create a thick festive atmosphere of "coming together in a culturally famous city, and having a carnival at the capital of general love," thus exhibiting the charm of the ancient metropolis of Nanjing, cultural Nanjing, environmentally friendly Nanjing; and thereby further increasing the notoriety of Nanjing.
　　
　　This magnificent cultural meeting opened a new window through which Nanjing can understand the world, and created a new platform from which the world can understand Nanjing, and explored a new route through which famous historical and cultural cities from China and abroad can learn from each other. Especially is the World Famous Historical and Cultural Cities Cultural Exchange and Relic Protection Nanjing Announcement jointly signed by 21 mayors; which is beneficial for strengthening dialogue, jointly pursuing more civilized societies, and improving the multifacetedness of world culture as well as mutual study and protection.
　　
　　After the performances of the closing ceremony of the expo concluded, fireworks were set off, and the sky became a profusion of color and light as the large scale fireworks display followed after other activities. Last night in Nanjing, people sang to their hearts content, and had a carnival all night long. The multitude of ceremonial flowers blossoming under a sea of stars hinted at a bright future for this famous historical and cultural city.
